When the heat turns up, your car feels it just as much as you do! High temperatures, dusty roads, and long drives can push your vehicle to its limits. At Crenwelge Motors, we want to help you keep your car running strong. Whether you’re commuting through Kerrville or going on a road-trip across the Texas Hill Country. Therefore, we’ve put together our top tips for keeping your vehicle in peak condition all summer long!

1.CHECK YOUR COOLING SYSTEM

Your engine generates a lot of heat, and in the summer, it works even harder to stay cool. You’ll want to make sure your radiator and coolant levels are topped off and that there are no leaks. Overheating is one of the most common breakdown issues in hot weather!

Pro Tip: Stop by our service department for a quick cooling system inspection. Our service team can check hoses, flush old coolant, and make sure your thermostat and water pump are doing their job.

2. TEST YOUR BATTERY

Extreme heat can cause battery fluid to evaporate and shorten your battery life. If your battery is more than three years old, it might be time to have it tested. Just swing by or call our service department and we’d be happy to test it for you!

3. INSPECT YOUR TIRES

Hot pavement can increase tire pressure and under-or-over inflate tires, which can lead to blowouts. Especially during high-speed summer drives. Check your tire pressure regularly (including the spare). Inspect for uneven wear or cracking. Consider rotating your tires every 6,000 – 8,000 miles.

4. STAY ON TOP OF OIL CHANGES

Your engine oil helps prevent overheating and reduces wear on moving parts. In the Texas heat, your engine may need more frequent oil changes – especially if you’re towing or doing lots of highway driving.

Ask our team about synthetic oil options that perform better in extreme temperatures.

5. KEEP YOU’RE A/C COLD AND EFFICIENT

Texas summers are brutal without a working air conditioner. If you’re A/C isn’t blowing as cold as it used to, it could be a sign of low refrigerant, a worn compressor, or even a cabin air filter that needs replacing.

Our certified technicians can perform a full A/C diagnostic to keep your ride cool and comfortable.

6. WASH & PROTECT YOUR EXTERIOR

Sun, bugs, and dust can take a toll on your vehicle’s paint job. Regular washing and waxing will protect your car’s finish and keep it looking great all summer.

We recommend washing your vehicle every two weeks and applying a good wax at the start of the season.
