The Ram 1500 pickup truck sets the bar high for others to follow. It not only has the power and capability to do almost any job, it has an upscale cabin and a wide selection of standard and available features. For the 2022 model year, the Laramie and Rebel get a new G/T Package, and the Limited now offers a Backcountry Edition. There's also a new 10th Anniversary Edition for the Limited.
Trim Levels
The seven main Ram 1500 trims start with the Tradesman. This has 18-inch steel wheels, black bumpers, and automatic headlights. The Big Horn adds 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome bumpers, while the Rebel has LED exterior lighting, a more aggressive exterior style, and all-terrain tires. The Rebel also comes with tow hooks and skid plates. Step up to the Laramie for LED headlights, power-folding side exterior mirrors, and more chrome trim, or to the Limited Longhorn for 20-inch alloy wheels and a spray-in bedliner. The top-level Limited comes with power-deployable running boards and a four-corner air suspension.
The TRX is an off-road version of the Ram 1500 with flared fenders, a lifted suspension, upgraded brakes, and more.
Engine
The base engine for the 2022 Ram 1500 is a 3.6-liter V-6 that puts out 305 horsepower and uses Ram's eTorque system. For more power, upgrade to the available 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 395 horsepower or to the 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 260 horsepower. A supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that delivers 702 horsepower is the powertrain for the Ram TRX.
Performance
All the Ram 1500s engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and you can get Ram's eTorque mild hybrid system to help make it more efficient. This pickup has a 12,750-pound towing capacity and can carry a 2,320-pound payload.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to five in the Ram 1500. Ram uses high-quality materials in the cabin, and it comes standard with power windows, cruise control, and a clean air filtration system. The Laramie and above have leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel, with upgraded leather in the Longhorn and bucket seats in the Limited. The Laramie has an 8.4-inch touch screen and comes with satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Ram Connect. A 12-inch touch screen is either standard or available in the higher trims, and you can also get navigation, HD radio, wireless charging, and an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Ram 1500 comes with a rearview camera, traction and stability control, hill start assist, and electronic roll mitigation. The Big Horn offers additional driver aids as part of the Safety Group Package, but bumping up to the Rebel gets you standard forward collision warning with automatic braking. Another step up to the Longhorn adds front and rear parking sensors. The Limited comes with a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, and depending on the trim, you can also get a digital rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning with mitigation.
