2022 Jeep Cherokee
The Jeep Cherokee is a capable small SUV that provides a nice ride on the road and has more off-road capabilities than most others SUVs in its class. For the 2022 model year, Jeep streamlined the trim lineup and now offers it in just five different models, which include a new X trim. It's also available in several limited-edition versions. Trim Levels
The entry-level Cherokee Latitude has 17-inch alloy wheels and roof rails. Step up to the Latitude Plus to add fog lights, a windshield wiper de-icer, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Another step up to the Latitude Lux gets you a power liftgate, while the upscale Limited comes with 17-inch black-painted wheels and a panoramic sunroof. The Trailhawk stands apart from the other trims with its off-road extras. It has all-terrain tires, 19-inch alloy wheels, a black hood decal, skid plates, and red tow hooks. The new X trim also has some off-road equipment.
Engine
Power for the base Cherokee Latitude comes from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 180 horsepower. The rest of the lineup gets either a 3.2-liter six-cylinder with 271 horsepower or a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that generates 270 horsepower. Every Cherokee uses a nine-speed automatic transmission, and for all trims except the Latitude and Latitude Lux, all-wheel drive comes standard. The Latitude and Latitude Lux come with front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option.
Performance
When equipped with the V-6 engine, the Cherokee can tow up to 4,500 pounds, while the base four-cylinder can tow 4,000 pounds. Its firm suspension provides a smooth ride and reduces body roll around corners, and the steering is well-weighted and responsive.
Interior
There's room for five in the Cherokee. The base trim has cloth upholstery, with comfort features such as heated front seats and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel in the Latitude Plus. This trim also adds a power-adjustable driver's seat. You'll get leather upholstery in the Latitude Lux, but bump up to the Limited for more luxury features such as driver's seat memory settings and dual-zone automatic climate control. Adding the Elite Package to the Limited gets you heated rear seats and ventilated front seats. The technology in the Cherokee starts with an 8.4-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a six-speaker stereo system. The Latitude Plus adds satellite radio and USB ports for the rear-seat passengers. Bump up to the Limited for a nine-speaker stereo system and an upgraded driver information display.
Safety Features
Standard safety features for the 2022 Cherokee include a rearview camera, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic braking. The Latitude Plus adds a rear automatic braking system that will apply the brakes if it senses a collision with an object behind the Cherokee. The Limited comes standard with adaptive cruise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a side distance warning system, automatic high beam headlights, and a parking assist system with full stop capabilities.
