Trims
There are six trims available with the 2020 Ram 1500: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited. Also, the truck comes with Quad and Crew cabs as well as two different bed-size lengths, so your options are numerous.
Engine
The base engine found on the 2020 Ram 1500 is a 3.6-liter V-6 one that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. There's also a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It features an eTorque mild-hybrid system that improves fuel economy. The V-8 engine comes standard on the Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited trims, but you can opt for this engine on the others as well. An all-new diesel engine is available, and its 3-liter V-6 engine produces 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
All trims come standard with rear-wheel drive, but you can opt for all-wheel drive. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
If your 2020 Ram 1500 has the V-6 engine, you get an estimated 20 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. These numbers are some of the best in its class. With the regular V-8 engine, you get 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, while the V-8 engines with eTorque get 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
When properly equipped, the vehicle can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,320 pounds.
Interior
The base Tradesman comes with vinyl or cloth upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, several USB ports, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touch-screen display. The Big Horn adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and upgraded cloth upholstery. If you're seeking additional interior comfort, check out the Laramie with its standard heated and ventilated front seats, 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and upgraded Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch touch-screen display.
The off-roading Rebel trim includes satellite radio and a 115-volt power outlet, while the Longhorn adds premium leather upholstery, HD radio, and navigation. The top-of-the-line Limited trim comes standard with a 12-inch touch-screen display.
Safety Features
The 2020 Ram 1500 only comes standard with a rearview camera, but there are many optional features available. Some of these features include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and automatic emergency braking.
Due to its stellar safety features, the Ram 1500's Crew Cab earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This is the highest designation for the organization. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Crew Cab models with an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. Quad Cab models earned a four-star overall safety rating. Also, both trucks earned five stars for the side crash test and four stars for rollover and frontal crash tests.
