Jeep's long-awaited pickup truck hit the streets in style at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. This highly anticipated Wrangler-based truck is the first of its kind since 1992 when Jeep squashed the two-door Comanche. The new 2020 Gladiator features everything you demand from a Jeep from superior comfort features to the added versatility of a bed, all behind the most famous off-roading badge ever.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Gladiator debuts in four trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon, plus the limited edition Gladiator Launch model. In this lineup, the top luxury trim level is the Overland, not Sahara like on the Wrangler.
From the outside, the Gladiator is immediately recognizable thanks to its iconic front end and the four-door Wrangler JL variant's cabin — with the addition of a 5-foot steel pickup bed. Just like its older brother, it touts removable doors and a fold-flat windshield. Take the roof off thanks to the standard soft-top or opt for a hardtop.
The pickup bed is the big news on the street. It features sleek, modern niceties such as under-rail bed lighting and a three-position, lockable tailgate. Rack up the features with tons of options to choose from including Jeep's Trail Rail cargo management system, a bed divider, and a tonneau cover. Get your Rubicon with a protective cab and bed rock rails standard.
Engine (Power)
With the 2020 Gladiator, you get to pick from one of two available powertrains. The stock 285 horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 pairs nicely with the six-speed manual transmission and delivers 260 pound-feet of torque. The highly anticipated turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 offers up 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque when paired with the available eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Each Jeep model that rolls off the assembly line is built for off-road performance and the Gladiator pickup holds true to Jeep's Trail Rated badge. It offers a maximum towing capacity of 7,650 pounds when equipped with the Max Tow Package and a payload capacity of 1,600 pounds to haul all the toys and gear you need.
The robust Rubicon trim offers serious outdoor enthusiasts the Rock-Trac system. It boasts an aggressive low-range crawl ratio, electronic front sway bar disconnects, and electronic locking front and rear differentials. Jeep's Command-Trac system comes standard on the Sport and Overland trims.
Interior
The look and feel of the new Gladiator's cabin touts the best of what Jeep has to offer from its exclusive 60/40 split seat configuration to the rear bench. This innovative row folds down to access a lockable storage compartment underneath. You'll appreciate the latest Uconnect 3 multimedia system with a standard 5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and four USB ports located within easy reach of all passengers.
Safety Features
The new Gladiator has the added protection of 80 available active and passive safety features including optional blind-spot monitor, rear cross-path detection, and adaptive cruise control. It also boasts the added convenience of a forward-facing camera, something Wrangler doesn't offer. This Rubicon-exclusive camera is activated at low speeds to detect off-road obstacles that you might not see over the Gladiator's hood.
