2020 Dodge Challenger
The Dodge Challenger is one of the most classic and iconic American muscle cars on the road today. With its powerful engine lineup, generous interior space, smooth ride, and a wide variety of features and options available, the Challenger is the definition of a family-friendly sports car. Trim Levels
One of the great things about the Dodge Challenger is that it's supremely customizable, with five primary trim levels. The base trim is the SXT, which is followed by the GT. The R/T and R/T Scat Pack kick up the performance, and the SRT Hellcat is the pulse-pounding, high-performance top-level trim.
The Challenger can also be had in a range of body colors. These include IndiGo Blue, Destroyer Grey, Plum Crazy, Maximum Steel, Granite, TorRed, Octane Red, and Yellow Jacket. Every trim level offers a wide range of graphics packages, widebody options, hood scoops, and other unique appearance touches.
Engine
There are five engine options for the new Challenger. The base is a 3.6-liter V-6 that delivers 303 horsepower with 268 pound-feet of torque. From there, you can step up to one of Challenger's V-8 engines, the first of which is a 4.7-liter model that nets 372 horses with 400 pound-feet. Next up is a 6.4-liter engine that generates 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet.
The fourth option is the Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged engine that gives you 717 horses backed up by 656 pound-feet of torque. Finally, for those who need the capability to really tear up the pavement, there's the Hellcat Redeye with 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
All Challengers come standard with rear-wheel drive for maximum speed, but on the SXT and GT trims you can opt for all-wheel drive to add a bit of extra performance and traction to your ride. The base transmission is an eight-speed automatic, but with the R/T you get a standard six-speed manual, with the eight-speed being optional. The Hellcat Redeye package removes the six-speed option and goes back to the eight-speed automatic transmission.
It should also be noted that the Hellcat Redeye is an add-on package to the SRT Hellcat trim level, which maximizes both your power and performance.
Interior
The interior design is just as sleek as the exterior, and even at the base level, you get technology features like power seats, the Uconnect infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more. Starting at the GT level, you get a lot of upgraded features that take the luxury even further. Spread across the trims are features like leather upholstery, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a larger touch screen, and others.
Safety Features
There are many active intelligent safety features available on the Challenger. These include blind-spot monitoring, active front-crash warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and parking sensors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it an overall 4 stars for safety, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it top "Good" scores on side-impact and moderate-overlap front-impact tests.
